spray paint experiments

In May 2020, I built a plywood wall underneath the deck of my parents’ house while sheltering-in-place. For the next few months, I taught myself how to spray paint, from large murals to smaller stencils on paper. I also taught a mini-unit in spray painting with stencils to my Introduction to Art and Graphic Design classes at The Taft School.

“Bloom Wall” was part of a joint student and faculty gallery exhibition at The Taft School entitled, “How Did We Create?”

Keep Ya Head Up! Stencil Project

In 2021, I created 18 stencils of neck vertebrae and sent them to friends as part of my nengajo, traditional Japanese New Years cards sent to those who you wish to thank. I wrote about more about the process and concept on my Substack, The Drip, which you can read here: “The Creative Process of Gratitude.”
